It will have a TT V8 engine and the car will be called X6 ///M....will hit the market by end of 2009.
Also ceramic brakes will be coming on some M models.

Quoting Ludwig Willisch from the BMW M GmbH for AMS magazine interview: The BMW M GmbH is working effectively on X5 and X6 M projects, but the earliest they will be on the road will be end of 2009. We expect the sales to be similar to that of M5.

Speaking with Germany’s Auto Motor und Sport, the boss of BMW’s M division, Ludwig Willisch said that sports versions of the X5 and X6 are in the pipeline and sales are expected to match those of the M5. While they will still be powered by BMW’s new 4.4L V8 twin-turbo engine, output is expected to be higher than the current 400bhp (298kW) and 450lb-ft (600Nm) torque in the xDrive50i.

The car will have larger intakes at the front and could make its debut early next year, said Willisch. It will also have a revised grille and new side mirrors. For the rest of the range he said there will be no 1 Series-based M car and no M3 Touring.

Text from MA:
Currently sitting atop BMW’s X6 range is the xDrive50i but if this latest rendering and several recent spy shots are anything to go by there may be a new top dog in the X6 lineup, and this one could wear an M badge. After witnessing Porsche and AMG rack up thousands of sales with their respective Cayenne and ML models, BMW is now primed to launch its own high-performance version of the X6 SUV.

Speaking with Germany’s Auto Motor und Sport, the boss of BMW’s M division, Ludwig Willisch, revealed a host of new plans and some very odd omissions. In regards to an M variant of the X6, Willisch confirmed that performance models of the both the X5 and X6 were currently in the works and that BMW expected sales numbers to rival those of the M5.
While still powered by BMW’s new 4.4L V8 twin-turbo engine, output is expected to be higher than the current 400hp (298kW) and 450lb-ft (600Nm) torque in the xDrive50i. The AWD configuration will also remain.
This new rendering shows a possible look for the car’s new front cowling, revealing much larger intakes than any previous X6 model plus a slightly revised grille and new side mirrors. According to Willisch, the new M X6 will make its debut early next year.

As for the rest of the M range, Willisch said there will be no M3 Touring model, no 1-series based M car and definitely no M1 supercar. He also stated that an E92 CSL is unlikely to be produced because there isn’t a substantial market for such a car.

On the CA mule, on each side one exhaust looks fake - does not appear blackend!

Its real. X6 exhaust pipe placement gives that illusion.

why would they use the same 4.4, that means I could get a xDrive 50 with a chip and be faster?
