Climate settings

Hi All,

Let's say I completely turn off my climate when I drive. I shut off the engine, lock the doors and leave. When I return back and start the engine, my X5's climate starts working automatically at the lowest fan speed and the temperature is at the last temperature I have set. Why is that? This is really annoying. I checked the manual and all possible I-drive settings. I thought the vehicle would recall the last settings for a specific key (I have comfort access by the way) but apparently not. Otherwise, the climate would be turned off when I restart the engine as it's how I leave my car before I shut it down and lock the doors.

Any ideas/ suggestions?

Thanks

According to the BMW dealership (2 of them)...only the X5 does this. It cannot be disabled, and it seems that a lot of E70 owners hate this "feature". If I turn my climate control off, I expect it to stay off. Crap design!! It will stay off, if the engine stop & start are within about 30 mins. After that, the climate control will turn itself on automatically upon the next engine start. Hate this, really!!

Comforting to see that I'm not the only one who hates this so called 'feature'
It should be a very easy fix with a software update but we know how it works. This should be looong way down on BMWs to do list.

My 5 series and 6 series did this. Sadly it seams to be sporadic as to what combination of items will trigger the system to actually stay off

Isn't that frustrating what "triggers" these systems? I love advanced engines and transmissions...but when I turn my A/C off, I expect it to stay off. So annoying with these cars "that stay awake, and go to sleep". Electronics suck for the most part!!!

BMW blows with electronics, the Honda/Toyota/Nissan crew basically kick them in the crotch when it comes to buzz and whistle.

To be honest, I actually don't mind this "feature". I rarely turn off the climate control, and if I do, I usually want it back on the next time I'm in the vehicle. The part I don't understand is why it "resets" to the lowest fan setting - why not the last auto setting?

Do many of you turn the climate control all the way off very often? Even if you are lucky enough to live in an area where driving with the windows/sunroof open is a frequent option, I would think you wouldn't mind a little air circulating through the vents - just turn the A/C compressor off.
