Portable Nav unit mounting ideas??

Hey all, I recently bought the new Pioneer portable nav unit to add to my new X5 (I really can't get used to the BMW factory nav ) and I want to have it hardwired and mounted by my local shop...Problem is, there seems to be only a few mounts offered by a company called Kuda that are vehicle specific for the E70...They are nice mounts, but with each, there would be no place to hide wires without drilling, or adding false panels, etc. and I want to keep this car as close to stock as possible! (been there done that!) And oh yeah, I can't stand the windshield mount, so that is not even an option for me!! Does anyone out there have any ideas for mounting options, or any other mounts that work with our car??

Thanks!

I like the phone kit, you could use that for the NAV? Easier access to run any wires to get power..

This is exactly the console I'm using. It looks good, only the wire directly below the plug is visible and the mobile nav is way better than the current BMW system (which costs around 5500$ extra here in Germany. Another point is that it was easy to connect to the vehicles power.

Here two pictures.

bye

Looks great!!How wide is your screen??I really like that mount as opposed to the Kuda mount that goes up top but I was worried about it not sticking out far enough or covering up some of the AC/Etc. controls...Does it get in the way when passengers are sitting in the car??

@RougeTrooper

it's connected to the lighter wire next to the ashtray, so it behaves similar as a plugged device (means it's switched off if ignition is off). That was the easy way as all the wires are hidden behind the panel in the passengers foot room.

@vabeachrunner4
it's a TomTom 930T, I'm not sure. Something around 4" I guess. And no it's not a problem for the passengers.

bye

Sven, two more questions....Does it take away the cup holder on the right side??My wife and I are always riding around with bottled waters so I wouldn't want to lose one of the cup holders!!And did you mount it to the Kuda base just by the unit itself or did you buy a mounting piece from Kuda as well, and how did you attach it to the base itself??

Thanks and looks great!!

Hi,

no the cupholders stay fully functional. You can see this on the second picture in my post above.

The unit is mounted via a active holder which includes the power and the TMC connector. This holder is mounted with four screws to the Kuda console and that's it. Have a look at www.brodit.com. They sell a huga amount of holders for almost every thinkable device.

bye
Sven
