SoCal BMWs Stuck at Port?

Anyone else being told that many of the ordered vehicles (X5s) in SoCal are "stuck at port" (on carrier) for unexplained reasons?

Am off lease with my X5 (I stupidly turned it in due to maintenance issues before my new X5 arrived). Am driving a free loaner 3-series until my new X5 comes in. Was told 2 weeks ago that it would be at the dealer and they and I are still waiting on it to clear port. The dealer is claiming that there is a number of vehicles that are stuck at port.

Anyone else dealing with this or is this a line?

That happened to me. My car was at the port (which for US bound X5's is simply the Vehicle Prep Center where they do final inspections before release to carrier to dealer) for about 1 month before it got released.

I checked the port sheets. There was no damage to the car. Just a horribly long wait.

From my inquires at the time, this was more common for cars coming to the West Coast (especially LA). But East Coast people got their cars fast!

Btw, make sure you inspect the car thoroughly before you take receipt of it. Mine still had glue all over that wasn't removed and the car was definitely not detailed.

Are all the X5 made in South Carolina? In this case, do they still transport the car by ships instead of the ground transportation to the West cost?

Just my thougt,

Cloudz

All X5's are manufactured in South Carolina.

They are not transported by ship; rather they are shipped on trains to the VPC. Then on trucks from the VPC to dealer.

I was told the same thing by my CA.
My X5 was ordered 6/9/08, finished production in South Carolina on 6/17/08, arrived at Oxnard port on 7/9/08.

My expected delivery was last week. When it didn't arrive, my CA stated it was still at port and he wasn't able to tell me what the delay was for.

However, my car is now at the dealership today 7/25/08, yipee...

So, hopefully you will get your car soon. I'll be checking my port sheet to see if any damages occurred though

Yeah. Definitely check the port sheet.

I was concerned that my car had sustained some damage and needed to be repaired thus the delay. Luckily there was no damage. It's just a backup at the VPC.

Ironically, just got word that the vehicle was delivered to the dealer today and will be picking it up tomorrow!

How does one get to view the port sheet?

Congrats! So how long did you have to wait from order till now?

The port sheet should be in the glove compartment with your flash light. If it's not there, check with your CA.
