Good time to buy 07 4.8?

I am looking to buy X5 4.8 and I understand the 08's are starting to come into the dealerships. The local dealership have several 07 4.8s and I like one of the them, which is completely loaded. List around 78,800.

Right off the bat the sales offered 2700 off. What do you guys think? I never bought X5 before and I don't know how many % off is a good deal.... Thanks for any help.

$2,000 off a 2008 is easy. So $2,700 off a 2007 model doesn't sound good to me.

Identicaly equipped 08 lists $900 cheaper since sunroof is now included free and premium package now is lowered by $900
Negotiate harder for 07, you should be able to get really close to invoice.
If not, I dont see any difficulty getting 08 for 2200-2500 off MSRP

if you're buying go w/the 08!!

prices are too close to consider an 07...

08s will also have the latest firmware fixes and maybe some other enhancements to address some if not most of the 07 issues..

if it's used you're looking for, with low mileage, than maybe you'll get a very good deal... but if new, go with the 08!

my only concern is there are alot of "used" 07s around... my local dealer did a search for me (we talked about getting me an 07 at first) and tons of them showed up on his computer (a network of other local dealers)

I wonder if these were returns because of the known issues...

wouldn't take the chance!

just my 2cents!

As the other posters recommended, get the '08 for at least $2,000 off MSRP and it's approx. $900 less than '07, so that's $2.9K off '07 price.

If you want an '07, you should be able to get one close to dealer invoice which can be as much as $6,000 under MSRP. Just check edmunds.com Dealers have many '07s still on lots and they're not moving.

Unless you need the deep discounted '07, I recommend the '08 due to the many well know problems with '07.

Good luck and happy hunting.

Interesting point you raised there, so in effect I am not getting much off at all.
So even if I get 5000 off, it is a 07 model and I will lose one year right away in resale value.
It seems like I would be better off buying 08 then...

May I ask what problems are the 07's having?

just a lot of "first year production" type issues.. it's expected to a certain extent.

this vehicle is heavy on the technology side... many software bugs in the idrive, NAV, backup camera, ipod interface, etc... not saying all vehicles have these problems but many owners reported having them... and it's been discussed on many other forums including this one.

these issues have been addressed at the dealers usually by way of a firmware/software update.

some mechanical issues with the park brake and I believe one official recall for a windshield washer resevoir leak...(or something like that)

great vehicle though... we love them and are looking forward to the 08s!!

Since the bugs are software related and can be fixed with a normal visit to the dealer (as you mentioned), I see no reason to think the 08's are better in that respect. Likewise, the other issues you mention are all correctable with normal service. If there was some design issue that BMW had changed the design for 08 to correct, it would make more sense to be more enthusiastic for the 08's, but if you can get a better discount on the 07 model, I would certainly go for it.

that's a good question on any design changes in 08... not sure..

on the software updates.... yes they can do them...but they are usually reluctant to do so... thing takes hours to perform... and they're always backed up...

doesn't hurt to ask around the next time you visit the dealer on any known issues or info on any design changes for 08.. (try to make friends with some of the mechanics there...)

i do..
