The logic 7 system is superior to the standard hi-fi. Also, vast imporvement on the DSP premium system of the E53.

Love it!

Cheers,

Again, based on your perception. Others would disagree. In reality, if it's worth it to you, that's all that matters

Actually, to clarify, I never gave my opinion. I only pointed out that what some people will find acceptable, others will say is not to their tastes. To me the standard system is fine, as I can not listen as high volumes anyway with my wife and 2 little ones in the car, and I rarely drive it alone (it's her car, not mine!). My point was that you should not assume that $1800.00 will get you a night and day difference in terms of sound quality, volume, etc., and furthermore, what some might think was a bargain for the difference, others would say was a complete waste of money for what they expected to get for the money.

Wow, didn't know that there would be such strong feelings on Premium Sound.

You oughta see what kind of debate you get on the Rear Entertainment system, Active Steering, Runnig Boards and Sport Package opinions! Do a search, lots of back and forth on many subjects on the forum.

Now if it was Running Boards, I could understand that.

Lexus has a "Mark Levinson premium sound system" option which upgrades the standard 11 speaker, 140 watt system to 14 speakers w/240 watts of power for an extra $2633!!!

sounds like the X5's standard system of 12 speakers, 2 subs, and 205 watts is more than enough!!

for $1800 bucks you get 16 speakers, 600 watts, and cd changer...

hummmm.... it's a tough one...

the new sound system has to really blast!!! if 600 watts don't make it a significant difference then it's not worth it!!

Let me pitch in my two cents... I tested out the Premium Sound system on the new 550 (awesome car BTW) and yes, I can say the sound was nice. But, $1,800 more nice? I don't think so.

Granted, the space inside the X5 is bigger but I think that the experience of listening to it on the 550 made me feel okay with my decision not to go with it.

At the very end my own CA told me that if I'm going wth the iPod adapter, that almost completes nulls the need for a CD changer as in the '07 model, or DVD changer in the '08. I mean, are you really gonna use the changer if you have your songs in the iPod?

And if the answer is most likely not, then are the extra four speakers and watts worth the $$$?

It is my opinion that it isn't.

But, to go against myself, one can argue that it does add a nice touch to say the X5 includes the Premium Sound package... and most likely can't hurt it if down the road you want to sell it.

I'll be replacing my speakers once I find a good fit and brand.. speakers are often the weakest link and are in all the BMW systems.. although I would like that DSP amp (it retails for around $1000 as a replacment part !!)..BSW don't have a kit for the E70 as yet do they ?
