As much as I like my "premium" audio, this package is not worth it to me as I do not want DVD player for rear and I think I can live without what sounds like 4 additional speakers and an extra 350 or 400 watts of power from the amp.

Thanks Brian5 for the input... let me clear something up.

You do have the premium sound, but don't think the new one is worth it? Or even the current one is not worth it as well as the new one?

I placed my order today for a 2008 3.0. Options include: Premium package, Premium sound, Tech package, 3rd row, iPod adapter, cold weather & comfort access.

I ended up getting $1800 off the new pricing, plus a pretty good price on the trade-in of my '04 530. I don't know if that's a great deal, but I think it's pretty good. I owe a lot of it to the information I found here. Thanks!!

Oh, sorry if my note was misleading. I don't have the 4.8i yet; I have a different Premium Sound package in my 328i. I was just saying that even though I like the idea of "premium sound", that the Premium Sound Package does not sound like it's worth it UNLESS of course you're buying the DVD player (which I'm not) AND you're not using an iPod (which I am).

Okay, I think I understand what you mean. But, when you say "UNLESS of course you're buying the DVD player"... does that mean that the DVD player does not have to be included in the Premium Sound?

no, it has to be included. He's saying if you want the DVD player, then maybe the high cost is worth it to you. It isn't to him since he has no interest in the DVD player.

Thanks once again sir... now is that a DVD player that will play DVD's on the nav screen... or just on the rear entertainment system?

Also, is there any word on final pricing? I ask because my local dealer with whom I've placed the order said he does not have final word yet on anything. Thanks!

You got it.

BTW, I just spent 2.5 hours with my local dealer today. This was my first time to discuss the X5 4.8i. I found that, due to what I've learned from this board and other sources, I know a lot more than ANY of the sales people in that dealership. They had never even heard of Saddle Brown and actually managed to find it in their ordering system. I could come up with many more examples.

I'm kinda confused, in what way is the premium sound linked to the dvd player(rear entertainment)? doesn't the package consist o 2 subwoofers and a 6 cd changer with the added functionality of playing dvd audio ?

No, there is not. Just come back from dealer. They do not have final pricing yet. They only had the 2008 changes and Options docs that have been posted on X5world already.
