Question about purchasing

Hello,

I just found this forum and this is my first time posting here.

I am going to order 2007 X5 4.8i with several options soon. This is going to be my first time of buying a car by myself. My dad is the one that always do the negotiation. When I am at the dealer, how much discount I should ask for?

Is there any trick or Do's and Don'ts when I talk to the salesman?

Thank you

Since this is a new model the negotiations will be tougher. I suggest you keep looking her for more details as to what people are getting. With the info in hand you will be better prepared to deal.

Good luck

I'd rec'd contacting every Stlr within an hr to 2 hr drive, and
seeking their best "internet" price or quoted price; (some may
not give a price on phone).

I agree with peakpro: new model, cool looking, combined with
std hoopla = little initial discounting, and nothing like the fire
sales going on for "on lot" '06s and earlier MYs.

If you are buying with payments, a smart salesperson will/may
hoodwink you with down payments, finance #s, etc. It is a
complex purchase, it's sometimes diff. to compare "deals" and,
they have the upper hand for the uninitiated.

It is also a very expensive buy, (2nd only to a house or boat or
plane), and should be approached very carefully. Park those
new car frenzy, and emotions aside, imo.

There are articles and books written on "buying a new
car": try the web and do some reading, eg. Edmunds, et al.
No dis, but your questioning post reads very naive, and most
car sales people rub their hands over the aspect of a neophyte
walking in to "buy"...

There are some very sharp finance people on this board, so
I'm bascially bumping it for you, for other opins, but your
ques. is very complex, in terms of trying to impart experience
to "answer" your question.

I would not be in a hurry, frankly, to grab one...they will
make another batch of them, every freakin day.

Thank you for your advises. Before I posted here, I made a phone call to my nearest dealer, and it was not so pleasant experience. A guy I talked to was not so polite. He was not willing to discuss about the price over the phone and pushing me to come to the dealer. The next several days, he called me a few times saying something about giving me a good deal.

I see that I really have to be careful dealing with them. I would wait for the those who ordered and post the deals they got.

I have my eye on an M3, I called the dealer and told him how much I was willing to pay. If your offer is fair but low they might hold out a few days, but the second a slow day come around, or the salesman wants to make his numbers for the month he will call and sell you the car. Be patient and NEVER fall in love with any one car, or one deal. If they tell you the "DEAL" is only good for one day, then it's not a good deal.
