Its is split. The top portion is bigger than current X5, which is why it gives an appearance of not split. Check the pics(link below in my sig) on my page and notice the pic where they show the tailgate open down.

I've seen that picture and took it to look like a slide out tray, which is an option on the current car.

I am talking about this pic. What you see at bottom is not slide out tray but the tailgate.

If you look at the bottom sides you can see the black metal hooks that catch the locks on the lower part of the tailgate exactly as on the current car. A One piece tailgate wouldn't need this but a single central lock.

I just got back from a three week vacation in England, visiting my in-laws. And to sum it all up...I can't believe how much they rip off the English. What have they done to deserve such cruelty, from low wages, to high prices not only on gas, but parking, groceries, clothe, cars etc... ...I stopped by Snows BMW in Portsmouth to check out the prices of BMWs, hot damm!! a 4.4 X5 amounts to 110K US dollars...damm they are expensive. I know exchange rate plays a big role, but almost double what we pay in the US??... that is nuts. You guys are getting robbed in daylight. Time to stand up.
