Same problem that's pretty common with the older ones - faulty setup that should be recalled in my opinion - instead the delaership will have you purchase a whole replacement tail light assemply for $250+...

got the fix here:

http://www.x3world.com/x5-e53-forum/...ion-fix-4.html

pretty straightforward fix - I got the help of my local indie shop with this stuff - they have the tools and the space - but these little articles and how-to's have really helped to pinpoint the issues very quickly...

HAHAHA!! I just literally got a knock on the door when I was about to post a reply to this - just got my new exhaust tips!! They're sweeeeeet!! huge chrome tips that look alot like the 4.6's - way nicer than the image from the ebay seller - and they were a pretty good deal..!

oh, and for the record - the mods done/planned so far:
-installed alpine type S 6.5" components all around - nice clean crisp sound, but nooooo bass at all!! factory amp dropped down to 4ohm is really underpowering them. i'm dying.
-still figuring what I'll do for the sub - might just do an infinity basslink - small all in one and it can be mounted out of the way...
-ordered Alpine w505 (still need to sort the double din faceplate)
-looking into conforti chip
-still shopping for some decent wheels...

aaaahhhh - and the modding continues...

As much of an infinity fan as I am, I would do this JL setup for bass

I would love to go that route too - I'm pretty sure i have seen you write about it before. My problem is budget. If I get the JL, then I have to buy a seperate mono amp, then I have to pay for install on both - add it all up and you're looking at triple the amount of going with the Basslink...
hard to justify - I've heard the basslink and i think it's enough to round out the sound at a reasonable price for me...

Yeah, it just takes up room in the back... And with the information available on this site and from BSW, the JL setup with the mono amp could easily be a DIY mod. But it is largely dependant on what you want from your sound. I personally would like the precise thump from the JL 10 since I listen to metal. Most people are more than happy with the BSW sub. But is the space is not an issue, the basslink is a excellent sounding setup. Like I said, I have always been a fan of infinity!
