Dinan Stage 2 and CAI

Anyone have the Dinan stage 2 software installed after installing a cold air intake?

Did the complete Dinan S2 upgrade (everything but the turbocharger) - My X5 now flat out GOES! Imediate throttle response. Awesome roar from the pipes. Almost 3 yrs now and flawless performance. It was like rebuilding the engine and giving it a new lease on life with 30-40 more hp. A couple other members drove it and called it "a BEAST!" Yes, it's expense, but (IMHO) well worth it. Sure, you can piece together a number of similar improvements from other manufacturers that may end up less expensive. But having everything made to work together and have BMW's okay, really makes it worry-free. Making a 5000lb vehicle preform like a 3-series is truely an amazing feat. I've flat out left 5.0 Mustangs behind.

Just a couple of notes: You have a 2005 and Flyboy has a 2001. There is no Dinan S2 "package" available for 2004 and newer E53 models. That's because Dinan never released TRANSMISSION software for the 2004 and newer X5s. They have ENGINE software, but not the TRANSMISSION SOFTWARE. So the bottom line is, you can still do all the mods that Flyboy has, but you need to ask for them a-la-carte: 1)Throttle body, 2) free-flow-exhausts, 3) Stage 3 ENGINE software, 4) strut bar. You won't need the CAI, becuase you've already got the AFE one, which is probably no worse than the Dinan one.

very useful info. 1) throttle body is only 8% wider than stock. not sure that is a wise use of funds.2) free flow exhaust might be a little loud for me. 3) engine software upgrade was unsuccessful. 4) i have a strut bar.

if i can get bmw to successfully install the stage 2 software that the service rep told me was made for the 2005 i think i'll be all set. maybe the installation was unsuccessful because the software doesnt exist? . thx for the info!

I have been thinking about a tune myself. I do not know where to go to get one or the cost of it.

The 05 trans seems to be fine on the shift programs, so that may not need much love.

Who else makes the tune?
