BP Gas
Any one use BP premium gas? I did a search and really did not find anything regarding BP gas itself, many threads about Top Tier gas though.
I have a Shell and BP close by, the BP is $4.17 and the Shell is $4.29 and Thursdays is $.05 off per gallon at the Shell. I have the BP Visa and you get nice rebates from purchases. My last full tank fill up was at the Shell, I am at 1/2 now and will be filling up today, Thursday. BP claims to have a quality premium with deposit fighting additives.

All major brands of gas have the additives BMW likes us to use. Some only put the additives in their premium fuel. The "Top Teir" companies put the additives in all of their flavors of gas.
As long as you use premium from a major brand you will do no harm to your BMW. If you want to use mid grade or lower I suggest you use one of the "Top Tier" gas brands as to get the valve cleaning additives BMW like us to have. Alternatively, you can also use just about any gas and put in a bottle of injector cleaner if you prefer.

Thanks! I will always use Premium in the M and X, I am surprised Exxon and BP are not on the Top Tier list, but maybe they just don't care. |

just want to share my experience with both Shell and BP...
i usually use BP on my X, but tried Shell for a couple of months since its convenient for me, its right next to where i park everyday. But i noticed i only get less than 100 miles whenever the gauge hit the 3/4 mark, and get less than 300 miles in a full tank. Using BP before, i get around 350 miles per tank. (no refill for me until the light is on) my last refill was at a BP station, got 120 miles on the 3/4 mark... you do the math.... ![]()

The subject has been pounded to death. This is only one of the many results found using the search feature. http://www.x5world.com/x5-e53-forum/...light=gasoline.
Most people have concluded that it makes no difference what fuel you use. Sooner or later it will be gone from your tank and you can just fill up with something else.

At the same price I would pick Shell, Chevron or Texico

I used to say that they all buy from the same refineries. But now I question that view. I always avoid scruffy stations that look like their tanks might be rusty or contain water/contaminates.
Now worry that cheap gas might be because additives are being deleted to lower cost. Check this out. http://www.toptiergas.com/retailers.html

The Top Tier program only considers deposit control additives, nothing else. It makes no reference to octane rating, quality, other additives, etc. It isn't bad, but it is definitely incomplete, in terms of a set of standards.

Simply, they don't need the advertisment. They probably feel that if they entertain one of these rating things they will have to deal with all of them. It's not worth the effort/expense to them. |
