X5 Tires, 19's vs. 18's

Hi all,

I need to make a decision. I am on the fence about replacing my tires on my 4.4 Sport with staggered 19's. I am mainly interested in an all season tire because I live in the mid west and I have to drive in occasional snow. The price for a set of all seasons on the 19's run about $1000 bucks. Seems that for about the same $1000, I can buy some 18's on Ebay with new tires. Plus, the 18's I can rotate for longer overall life.

I guess my question is, does anyone have experience with the Michelin Latitude Tour HP tires (practically the only all season tire in this size)? How long do they last? How do they perform in light snow? Is there a better overall route to go?

Any comments are much appreciated...

Not sure about the Michelin's..I'm sure they're good. But I just got new tires for my 20 inch wheels. I went with Nitto 420 S all season. They work great, I can't believe I didn't get these sooner...

Go for the nineteens! They look much bigger than 18's and they are worth the money and newly found lust for your vehicle

What size wheels do you have and what type?

Like .....do you have 19" staggered 87's?? ..as an example.

Knowing What type of wheels that you have will help us help you decide on tires.

I just did this exact switch you're asking about: from 18s to 19" staggered on my 4.4i. And Iit was with the Michelin Latitude HP all-seasons.

The verdict is still out, since I only did this a couple of weeks ago. I ran into some bad luck with the tires: the dealer gave me 3 out of 4 tires with cracks in the sidewall, and then tried to pin it on "road hazard". I took them to task and had them put on a 2nd set at their expense. We'll see what happens. Cosmetically, it looks nicer than the 18" setup. I have no idea how these Latitude all-seasons will do in the snow. They do say "M+S" on the sidewall. Time will tell.

Consider the Pirrelli Zero Scorpion Asimmetrico's which are available for the sport 19" rims. They are mud and snow rated. I have driven them through snow storms and was pleased with their performance. On dry pavement thay are as good as the Michelin's. Regarding tire life, I am on my third set, I get 25K miles per set and replace before I hit the wear bar.

All, these are great answers, I appreciate the help. Has anyone determined how many miles the Latitudes go? Seems the 18's should be able to last longer, if for no other reason than they can be rotated.
