Clouded Headlight Lenses
I had the problem with the deterioration of the coating on the headlight lenses. I used the Crystal View product, which worked great initially, but they are clouding. Can the lenses be replaced or does one have to buy the complete housing. My X is an 04 with xenons.
Thanks. |

Yes.....there was deterioration of the lens along the tops of both lenses - the crystal view kit removed it and the lenses were beautiful immediately following application, but they have begun to cloud up after a few weeks.

If you still have a warranty, have them replaced. I did.

The problem is crazing, microscopic cracks in the plastic. The application of the product fills in the cracks temoprarily, but eventually the plastic dries out again and the cracks reappear. I've had some success with plastic polish and lots of elbow grease, but if the crazing is too deep, it won't work. I believe the crazing is mostly caused by long exposure to sunlight.

Try putting a coat of wax over the lens after you treat them. (That was a suggestion I have read before).
