Change Battery/Radio COdes?

I don't have my original manual so do not have radio codes. I want to change the battery. Am I going to need the radio codes afterwards?

Not if you hook up some jumper cables under the hood to the terminals, then unhook the battery, being carefull with the POS terminal as it will be hot from the other car.

Or you can buy a battery tender that plugs into the cig lighter.

Might be a little safer and easier.

It's not unsafe to jump start your car and the other car doesn't have to be running, just put the pos terminal in a zip lock or other similar type bag as soon as you remove it from the battery to prevent it from arching. I don't think you need to purchase a battery tender to swap out the battery. Besides the pos terminal will still be hot with the tender so why spend money for something that doesn't eliminate a problem?

Hello,
I just bought a 2001 x5 3.0 and was wondering if this would have a radio code? I bought this from the bmw dealer and the salesman said that this one did not have the radio code and only the older bimmers did? I wanted to put in a DICE and maybe upgrade the battery to a dry cell type like in my '93 Range Rover lwb.

I was wondering if i hooked up my portable battery jumper to the terms in the engine would this keep the x5 charged so that i would not need a code? example of battery jumper (i have one like this) Name: 41TCN3VYCQL__SL500_AA280_.jpg

I will soon make a thread on my new x5 (new to me).
Cheers,

When I changed out my 6 yr old batt, (easy DIY), I didn't
lose a lick of info.

If you need the DIY/pics stuff thread, I can dig it out for
you, as I did a lot of pics. But, easy stuff: 30 mins max,
with breaks and pics. Didn't lose any data...
