Steering Angle Sensor fixes itself at $tealer

OK, so I've answered and posted on a bunch of threads about battery replacement and battery drain on my 2002 3.0i X5. My DSC, ABS & Brake light were on as a result of a dead battery in January. I replaced the battery and the DSC, ABS and brake lights were still lit up on the instrument cluster. I did the "turn the wheel to the left and right" thing as suggested by others to no avail. So, I visited the $tealer today to have the fault codes read and they told me that I needed to have the Steering Angle Sensor replaced - $380 + tax. I proudly declined the fix. 20 minutes later, the service advisor tells me the tech reset the fault code and is test driving to ensure the DSC & ABS systems work. Well, to no surprise to me, everything works fine now, but the service advisor informed me the lights can come on at any time since the Steering Angle Sensor is bad. BS!!! After 88 miles, everyting is A-OK. Bottomline, this forum is awsesome, I never would have declined service and the $tealer would have $400 of my money for a simple fault code reset. It's too bad it cost me $114 to have the fault code reset, but it's still less than $400+!!!

Now, the big question - does anyone know of a good diagnostic/reset tool that can read and reset engine fault codes AND DSC/Antilock Brake codes so I don't have to spend 2 hours at the $tealer and listen to their BS???

Always challenge the $tealer since most of their diagnostics and recommendations are Bull$hit!!!
