About to buy a 2006 X5 today
It's CPO and has 20K on it. On my wifes 3 series, I purchased a CPO and bought an additional warranty package to cover the maint. My question is, is this a good thing to do and if so, is there negotiation that can be done on the cost.

If I were you I would skip the maintenance package and put that money towards extending the general warranty when it expires. I am capable of doing brake jobs and oil changes myself.

I've changed a clutch on old jeep in the middle of the woods when I was a kid. I'm not scared of mechanics, my problem is time management. I'm buying it more for convenience. twinkidneygrill seems like a good option though.

Even if you are not able to maintain your vehicle yourself, an independent mechanic, if you find a good one, is more cost effective. Welcome to X5World!

Just buy it...you are covered for the original 4yr/50k mile limit. You can purchase that extended maint. agreement anytime during that 4yr/50k limit so you have time to decide. Anyways, it's always cheaper to buy it on the internet if you decide you want it and towards the end of your 4yr limit you will have time to decide if it really is a good deal based on what will need to be done.

I would compare the cost, maybe the dealer will give him a deal to sell the car. The flexibility of waiting is a plus you might get in a accident and want to dump it.

Hey RX5, I actually didn't end up buying it so not sure. If noone answers your question here on the boards, a quick call to the dealer should answer it for ya. I do know that once it is purchased it stays with the car (just like CPO warranty) so anyone you sell it to will benefit.
