Thumbs up AFE Intake on a 4.6is

ok all, this weekend I decided to take a look at
installing my AFE Intake on my 4.6is. i took
a couple pics of what i think most of u have already
told me to expect. i just want to make sure. i have
a question for those w/ the AFE Intake on their 4.4's
and such. do u have a wire that goes to the stock intake?

I installed the intake on my 4.8, I don't have anything like that connected to my stock air box.

ok, i'll take a guess. It looks like the 4.6 has an extra inlet to the airbox. The wire looks like it goes to a vacuum switch that opens and closes the flap to the extra air inlet. Why it does this I don't know. But if you look at it, it is before the filter, so it appears you don't need an extra filter for this extra inlet.
Whether you can remove this during the AFE install is unkown since I don't have a 4.6... but if you want to loan me your 4.6 to "inspect" for a few months...

well, i did it. i installed the AFE Intake on my 4.6is.
Sonnyboy, u were correct. that extra part is/was
connected to some sort of vacuum switch. i thought
it was electronically controlled, but it's not. the hose
runs under the engine cover. i left the hose attached
under the engine and tied it off under the AFE Intake.

so far so good. i'll try and get pics this week.

Good job on the install. If you can get a pic of the tube, that would be cool. I'll be ordering mine if this works.

here are a couple of pics (post install). if u look at my 1st post,
u'll notice some contraption. there is a hose connected to that
contraption. all i did was disconnect to the hose and tie-wrap to
the wires running along the left side of the underside of the AFE
Intake (see pic 1 below). as for the other hose seen in pic 2 of
my 1st post, AFE sent me an additional filter to use in conjunction
w/ the part that the hose attaches to. i removed the hose
completely and attached the extra AFE filter to the part in which
the hose was removed. any questions, feel free to ask.....
