Good info here. So that "contraption hose" under the box is just open? That exta hose in front looks like it goes to some carbon filter. Is that what you attached the small filter too?

the hose that attaches to the "contraption" inside the airbox
is, indeed, open. from what i've seen, this hose is merely a vacuum
hose that under extreme acceleration, opens the "contraption" to
allow for more air inside the stock airbox. being that i removed the
stock airbox and now have mass air flow, i believe that there is no
need for the contraption. the hose is tied off, but remains open.
also, the hose is pointing down to avoid water getting in to it.

the extra filter is attached to the carbon filter itself. i removed the
hose completely and attached the extra filter to the part seen below
(notice the red arrow).

Not sure if you ever figured out that the hose to the stock air box is the Air Pump. Here is a link to a discussion of it:

http://www.x5world.com/x5-e53-forum/...ram-found.html

I am considering removing the air pump entirely when I get an air intake.

How is the sound of the AFE CAI? Anyone able to compare the sound of the AFE vs the Dinan?
