X3 and Baby Seats (and disabling air bags)

Hello all...

It's been a while since I've posted, but we're still loving our X3, and it's about to become a family wagon. My wife is due in about 3 weeks with our first child, and the X3 will be his main ride.

So, I'm hoping there are some fathers out there who can answer a few questions about the baby seat:

-Where did you place it? (Left, center or right hand side?): We have a 75 pound Labrador and she needs some space as well. She may be able to ride in the very back if placing the seat in the center is highly recommended.

-Did you disable to rear airbags? If so, on both sides? And how does one go about doing this??

Any other tips you guys have would be great.

Happy motoring....

If you want to have space in front and in back then you better place that childseat in the front. Dealer can disconect the airbag for you if your X does not have this option.
If you are placing the seat in the rear, then you should definitly have it behind the passenger seat, this way you that are driving have the space neaded.
About side airbags, i did not disconect mine, the only recomendation is that the seat is x inches from the dor, and if you buy quality seat it wil be.
To recomend is rearfacing seat for as long as you can, you have no clue how easy chids neck snaps in colision in face forwarding seats.

Thanks E5....we probably will place it in the back, not in the front seat.

It's a Graco "Snug Fit" so I think it's quality. But if it is behind the passenger seat, on the right side, won't it be within range of that passenger side read airbag?

The middle seat in the back is the safest spot.

Thanks x54....I've read the studies, etc. I don't think we'll be able to use the middle of the back, given other needs. And, I'd like to use the built in LATCH anchor points, which you cannot use in the middle (as opposed to using the seatbelts). Other x3 owners have said the seat we have (Graco Snugride) fits much better using the LATCH system.

So, we'll likely have him behind the passenger seat, as we live in a city and it's easier to work from the curb side.

I've also learned that the side curtain airbags don't need to be turned off in the back.

I have two kids and their baby-seats are in the rear passengers sitting area. Before the second was born, the first one was in the middle of the rear passenger sitting area. Good luck with your baby and happy father's day!
