Tire advice

I have a 2005 X5 3.0-litre turbo-diesel whose original Michelin Energy MXV4s are shot. My driving (here in Australia) is 80 percent secondary bitumen roads, 15 percent gravel, five percent muddy tracks. I'm currently running 235/65 R17s and would prefer to stay with this size due to functionality and cost considerations. Any suggestion re replacements?

I have had Mich on my X a Volvo and a VW and have found them to be great tires that still have good grip after 30,000 miles. I find that some other brands like Bridge stone are not as good. I generally feel that the premium you pay for Mich is worth it. You might also look at the tire rack web site for information on other tires.

How many miles do you have on your current tires?

Current tires only have 25,000 miles. The coarse gravel roads around here really chew tires up so I'm looking for something more robust. Right now I'm thinking of going with Michelin Latitude Tour HPs as Michelin claim that they are resistant to abrasion and chipping on gravel roads.
