Recomendations for break pads and rotors?
Hey guys I have a 2003 X5 4.4 and tonight I got the dreaded check break lining error. Can anyone recommend any break pads and rotors to replace the original EOMs?
Thank you. |

I am pretty sure you can do a search for brake pads and find a ton of threads covering this topic. It seems to come up very often. My $0.02 is if you want OEM performance go with any good quality rotors and Axxis Delux pads. If you are looking for a little better performance and are willing to trade for a little more dust and quicker wear go with Stop Tech direct replacement slotted rotors and Axxis Ultimate pads. |

What is the difference between the delux and the ultimate pads?

To sum it up, the Delux are probably closer to OEM. They are easier on the rotors, give off less dust, and last longer. However, the Ultimates are more of a performance pad that resist fade, eat the rotors a little faster, and give off more dust. The axxis website should have all the answers for you. http://www.axxisbrakes.com/techdata.htm go to the above site. if you click any of the 12 options in the middle of the screen it compares the different types of Axxis pads to each other. There you can determine which one is best for your particular needs. |

Thanks for the link. Looks like the deluxe pads it is.
Has anyone tried these rotors? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BMW-X...4257QQtcZphoto ![]() |

Has anyone tried these rotors? Nope, I have never heard of this brand. If you are going to go with the Axxis Delux pads I would recommend using a plain OEM style rotor from Zimmerman, Brembo, ATE, etc. You can't go wrong with those. Preformance will be very much like stock. Just my opinion. Here are a few links of reputable places you can search. http://www.pelicanparts.com/ http://www.bavauto.com/ Good luck! |

Take a look at the Centric rotors on the Zeckhausen site, if you don't want to go OEM. Recommend the plain ones, not slotted or drilled.
Wouldn't trust the ones on the ebay link; if they can't even spell correctly on their ad copy (ruting?) why trust them to make a rotor?

Can't go wrong with OEM, and no questions needed to be ask.

I put both Centric Premium rotors and Axxis Deluxe Plus brake pads on my 2002 X5. Very disappointing.
They have been on for nearly a year and still squeek at every touch of the brake pedal. Its true there is no dust at all with these pads but I can't take the noise. I have checked the pads and rotors to see what the problem is but they look normal, nothing trapped in them, no scraches on the rotors. Positives: No dust on my wheels. No rusting of the rotors ever time they are wet. Zeckhausen was good to deal with. Negatives: Noise! When first stepping on the brake they do not feel as positive as the OEM pads do. |
