4.8is Tire Question

It's time to replace the tires on my 05 4.8is. Tire dealer says the Diamaris have been discontinued and replaced by the Latitudes. Is anyone here running the Latitudes, and if so, what are your comments/opinions?

Any recommendations other than Michelin? Maybe Pirelli Scorpions?

Thanks very much,

v8

The Diamaris is being discontinued but you probably can still find them either in your local tire shops, ebay, or tirerack. It is said to be replaced by the Lattitude but they're completely different tires. The Diamaris, IMHO, is hands down the finest summer tire for the X5 when it comes to overall performance on the dry and wet pavements. Trade off is they wear quicker than any other X5 tires I know. The Lattitude (no personal experience) is more of an all-season tire which will decently serve your needs from point A to B year round. The good thing is they last and last.

I also have experience with the Continental 4x4 SportContact which is similar (may be not as good) in performance to the Diamaris and will last you a little longer.

Other fantastic tires to consider are the Toyo Proxes S/T (all-season) and the Yokohama Advan ST. Both of these also get fantastic reviews. If you do a search on these tires here you will find more details about all of aboved-mention tires.

Again it all depends on your driving style and budgets. Also check out tirerack.

I switched from Diamaris to Yokohama Advan STs on my 05 4.8is. They have a better ride and a better tread life than the Diamaris. I would definitely recommend them!

Latitude HP is supposed to be a little more durable and quiet than the Diamaris, but probably at the expense of some grip at the limit of the car. We haven't had a great deal of feedback yet, but that was Michelin's supposed intention was to "detune" the Diamaris.

I would go with the Yokos if you want the same level of performance.

Are all of these above mentioned tires, Yoko Advan ST, Latitude, Toyo Proxes, Continental, etc. run flat tires like the oem Diamaris?

I too am looking for tires for my 4.8is. I want the quietest longest lasting tire.

As far as I know, Diamaris are not runflats.

Look no further than the Latitude Tour HP which has a treadwear rating of 440AA.

why does tirerack show the Diamaris as not a runflat tire? My OEM Diamaris are runflats.
