Spare wheel size and space

What size spare to people have in the back?

I have seen a picture of a tray almost a couple of inches deep that sits on top of the wheel, under the luggage space floor. My floor virtually rests on top of the wheel and tyre, so some smaller spares must be used. Mine is not as large as the real wheels, but it's not what I'd call a 'space saver' either.

What's the standard spare wheel setup in US spec cars?

4.6is and 4.8is trucks use a mini-spare, I'm pretty sure. I think it's b/c the 17" doesn't fit over the brakes.

Is there a tray above the wheel, under the floor? Looks like the same size as mine in which there's no room. Is there ANY gap between the top of the wheel and the underside of the floor?

That would make sense. Maybe it is these cars that have the tray on top of the wheel and under the floor?

No tray on mine...the rear, in-car "floor" is just a lift out panel which may or may not
actually touch that top plastic center plug on the spare...
mine is an '01 whimpy 3.0, so it may not be apples to apples.
