HELP Can't take off rear wheel

Hi,

I'm trying to install my new wheels on my 3.0 X5. first front wheel worked fine. I removed all 5 lugnuts from rear wheel and then pulled and nothing. I think the hub centric carrier thing is rusted solid against the wheel, but I'm not sure, it could be something else. I've tried pulling hard, using PB blaster, using a lever to twist the wheel, I even banged the damn thing with rocks in an atempt to dislodge it. NOTHING.

Any other ideas?

rubber mallet and tap.

the fit between the wheel and hub is tight.


make sure you have sufficient support (jack stand or multiple jacks) when you tap or kick the tire.

When I had to bust my wheel(s) off the first time, I put the car on jack stands,
(not the provided jack), and put the floor jack under the support point for add'l
support: then I parked my fanny on the floor and used my legs to push/kick gently
the tire at top and bottom. Our legs are much stronger than our arms; it worked for me.

Let me make sure I understand. You have all the lugs off, the wheel just will not come off the hub...correct?

Bang, with your hands, as hard as possible against the top of the rim/tire pushing it in towards the car. Do the same all around the wheel, top..bottom..left..right..

It should start to loosen up. DO NOT bang things like rocks against the aluminum wheel

You have it right. I tried that with no luck. I did not back the wheel with rocks I wrapped a rock with a cloth and tried to bang the tire since I do not have a rubber mallet.

At this point, I think I'm going to give up and go to the tire store and have them deal with it....

Yah got to be kidding, I'd take it to a dealer actually. If it is really that stuck, the hub might have "issues" when the wheel finally comes off. If that happens, trust me, you want it at a dealership. Not some random tire/wheel shop.

Too bad you aren't closer to B-more, Russel BMW is great and I could recommend some guys there for you. Don't go to VOB and Passport BMW is alright. Russel is by far the best, if you can find a reason to come up that way.....dew it!!

Carefully lower the X on the jack and use the weight of the truck itself to dislodge the wheel. Be sure to use anti-seize on the hubs so it doesn't happen again.

I had the same issue the first time I changed the wheels on X. Took me 2 days. tried everything and did not work. Eventually, I stood next to car with my back towards the car and gently but firmly kicked my heel to the bottom of wheel few times and it finally came loose.

To avoid this problem in future, always use Anti-seize when mounting wheels. I use it everytime and never happend again.

No he's not joking..... Had a friend from NY call me while he was stuck on the side of a road about the same issue. Ended up taking some serious force with a 4X4 to get it loose. No damage to the wheel but it was not funny trying to get it off.

update... I took it to the gas station to get this done. It took two guys banging and hitting the wheels to get them off, insane! I should have thought about the antisieze oh well...
