Can you shed some more info on exactly how you manage to
display speed cameras on your MKIV. i.e. "I burn a new map monthly"

Hmm, don't think so as there's a single software update *CD* for all models of nav computer.

The only MOST based car that loads new nav SW from a CD is the E65/E66, which has a modified (almost hybrid) Mk3 or Mk4, connected to the MOST bus

All other MOST based cars have their nav software updated over the diagnostic interface

Thus I believe the poster was correct: the MOST cars (apart from E65) may have DVD drives that only read DVDs.

My 05/2005 built E60 comes with DVD Navigation slot, but can read both CD and DVD navigation discs.

At present, I'm using a CD-RW to test that my navigation with added POI's works, if it doesn't display 100%, I edit the files to correct, erase CD-RW and burn again. I also believe it reads DVD-RW as well.

I think what kiwi ment is that maps are only offerd on DVD

Why not try a map from a different manufacturer - the HIGH map format is also used by Renault, Vauxhall/Opel etc. (The only difference is that the POI might not be tailored to BMW e.g. service centres, however you can fix that with Pimp-My-Nav)

Or do you think Sensis have provided the same duff maps of Australia to all the manufacturers?

Not sure if you are still suffering from post "state of origin" euphoria but what i was looking for was your personal opinion of the
pimp my nav utility regarding its ease of use and maybe a expanded description of where you get the map info.
I have viewed the pimp nav site and it obviously looks straight forward but this might be just self promoting on their part. It sounds like you have used the utility regularly, are there any limitations that might save others time and frustration that you could share with us?

What nav firmware revision are you running it on?

Also seems to be a number of alternate sites that the camera locations can be found, which one are you using ?

Check to see if Holden (Vauxhel/Opel are called Holdens in Australia) and Renault Australia actually offer navs.

In New Zealand, BMW was the only map source. So anyone with a VW that wanted a map, had to buy it from BMW

I am sure the data source will be the same for everyone, as map makers would have one database that is then exported into the different formats required.

You're obviously not aware of the extremely close links that BabyMakingWeather has with the Pimp My Nav utility - I doubt he'll ever say a bad word about it.

But as an independent user I have used it and I find it is the simplest most straightforward method available for adding extra POI data to the VDO (BMW) map discs.

Doing it manuals is such a pain and soooo many files to change.
Using Pimp My Nav makes extremely easy to do.
