Hmmm... thats a clue....

Here's a thought: if the power feed to the antenna amp is shorted (inside the antenna amp, or connected to wrong antenna amp plug) then the radio may switch to automatic protection mode, and switch off the audio output stages. Maybe...just maybe... this is the problem

So try this to find out if I am right:
1. Unplug the white wire to the aerial amp (which is the power feed from the radio).
2. Observe what happens with the radio - check if you have CD & nav sound. If so, your white wire to the radio is connected to the wrong plug on the antenna amp, or the antenna amp is faulty.

Let me know what happens...

Hi again, update on no sounds,i gave up!!.Back again to do battle as i've got some time on my hands and use of another vehicle so there's the latest:
I've found out the wiring loom and bm54 were originally from a 2006 X5.I've tried the speaker method but no out put.It doesn't seem to make any difference to the stereo when removing the white power lead, stereo will still show stations.Definately got 12v at power to aerial amp (white ),but this is the part that interests me.i noticed some black insulating tape at the drivers side (UK spec) right hand side, near where the r/h amp on c pillar is.On cutting back there are 2x mini co-ax cable tied back, just like the ones on the tv tuner and bm54 .This makes me think that this could be the problem, but where do they attach to.The amp on that side (r/h) has no facility to house these, could they be for a tv amplifier or alike. The TV does work(no sounds!!) but poor signal at times.
I,m ready to give it a go again, even if i have to start from scratch again,so any help will be appreciated.
Many thanks.
Colin

White wire is 12V switched output coming out of the radio to supply power to the antenna amplifier. Removing it will remove power from the antenna amplifier, but radio will still work.

The unused coax cables are tied back because they are not needed. They will be antenna cables. They will have nothing to do with no sound.

Mobile TV reception is hugely variable, depending on the signal strength of TV signals in your area. A glance at the size of local TV antennas on houses will give you an indication as to wehther you are in a strong or weak signal area. Knowing where the local TV transmitter is located will also help you understand what signal strength should be like in your area.
VHF reception is much better than UHF reception, so find out if your local channels are VHF or UHF.

To confirm if the TV antennas are working, unplug both antenna cables from the TV tuner. Then connect one, then the other. Observe the picutre when each antenna is connected in turn - if the picture appears when the antenna is connected, the antenna will be fine.

For us to continue helping you, please post photos.

This is totally different to your original fault description.

Originally you said "THE RADIO MODULE DIDN'T SEEM TO WORK. SWAPPED ONE OUT, STILL THE SAME,NO POWER TO MONITOR TO TURN UNIT ON,IE NO LIGHT WHEN TURNING L/H KNOB."

Your original fault describes a lack of power to the radio, where you cannot turn the radio on.

Now you describe that the "stereo will still show stations"

If you want forum members to help you, you need to accurately describe your problem, and if possible post photos of any symptoms.

Points that will help us:

1. Can you turn the radio on and off using the volume knob? Click to cycle on/off. When on, the orange LED next to the know will illuminate.

2. If you can turn the radio on, can you tune up and down the band, and does the radio properly stop at expected stations?

3. Can you hear any sound from any source? Radio, Tape, CD, Nav, Telephone, TV. If you can, do ALL sources work. Describe.

Answer these questions and describe what you observe.

Thanks Jochen. Will post pics no problem, can you tell me the location/areas you require in order to assist me? On the radio self search issue, only FM stations can be found, and unfortunately seems to be dependent on location.Out of city no problem, but in built up areas not good. Orange light illuminates on operating left hand knoband stereo can be changed using right hand knob, also steering wheel controls enable the changing of CD's but no sound from any source.Everything seems to function ok, just that there is no sound whatsoever even the nav.Still have warning "pings" for speed, low washers etc.
Thanks

> only FM stations can be found
No power to antenna amplifier is the likely cause.

> no sound from any source.
Amplifier is the likely cause

Or of course, a wiring error :-)

Time for photos.

Had similar problem on the weekend. Does the sound come out when the video module is on TV? We found that the blue/brown & blue/red wires were in the white plug in the radio and that seemed to only work with the video module on, we moved the pins to the nav/tv input on the small black plug and that fixed our problem.

Hi, the car now fitted with16:9 screen, BM54, MK4 DVD with v29. Originally the car was fitted with DSP,but after reading on this forum, getting it to work is a major job,so not connected at the moment. The X5 loom (2006) does not appear to have the DSP wiring,or rather a straight pnp fitment.I have a connection not used from the loom and will describe or take a pic of it to see if you guys could identify its function and will post tonight. Thanks again for the help.

Hello there
What is the status on this problem?
I'am having the same problem:
Sometime ago at the dealer they squised aand short circuited the feed to the Parrot BT, when collecting the car there was no sound anymore and after changing the 10 Amp fuse ( which has been blown ) on de radio module, sound was back.Or is this module with the 10 Amp fuse the Amp?
Two weeks ago all sound went; someone suggested the batterytension was to low; I mesured at standstill and key in fist position only 12.10 Volt.
One should have minimum 12,25 or radio/amp wil put itself into security.
Whith engine running I mesured 13,8 Volts
So I went for a new battery saterday a week ago and gues what: immediatly after connecting the new battery, the radio was playing as never before!
But last thursday, whlist driving the sound went away again and hasn't comeback since.Battery tension is 12,50 Volts, so should be OK.
I'am desperate.
Could someone post some pictures off the radio and Amp module as I'am driving a RR 2004 which uses the same components but has nothing under the spare wheel.
Thanks
Ronald
