Easy enough, you need more than just navtweak,

You need ,

Navtweak,
GTK+/Win32 Runtime Environment files
An image reader/writer, (like imgburn)
An application that can read/write and open and image, (like UltraIso)

Once they have installed all the above, you then download the OS image, open with UltraIso, drag and drop the navboot file from the correct dir in the image file to the desktop, mod navboot and save, drag and drop back into the image, save, then burn new image (with imgburn) at a slow speed and job done.

It sounds hard but once you have done it few time it's second nature.

With regard to the fantastic sky shots that were posted earlier on in this topic, there's a good one HERE on Bikers Oracle if someone can edit out the bike.

Problems with MKIV

Hi Guys,

i hope that somebody can help me having problems with my MK4 Navigation System in my BMW e46. I used Navtweak to change the Start-Up Screen and even the Skyline in Birdview Mode. I downloaded Image V31 and opend it with UltraIso to extract the Navboot. After editing with Navtweak and saving back into image (also with UltraIso) i burn it on a CD (Mode1).
Everything looks OK, the Startup Screen appears like i want it and also the skyline is different. But if i change the scale to 10km or more (sometimes it happens also at 500meters) it takes a small coupe of time and then the TMC Logo disappears and the Navigation System freeze. Within 5sec. it restarts. My Problem is that i cannot say if this problem also occured with the "original" software because i did not try it before... Is it a problem of the Firmware or is my MK4 broken? I only uses burned Navigation DVDs, maybe it is also the problem???
Thanks for your help

You image files you used for the sky and startup will be too big. Make sure the images are about the same size (in bytes) as the original images.

What has happened is that the images are taking up too much memory and upsetting some memory addresses which is causing the nav to crash

Thanks Jochen for your quick answer. My navboot is about 30kb bigger than the original files was, is it to much anyhow? How can i do this to have the same size? I mean the small BMW Logo at the Startup does not uses a lot of memory, i believe that it would be impossible to have the same file size as the original when I use coloured pictures for startup...

Cheers, Kamil

Hi all.

I replaced my recent 4:3-TAPE on board monitor with 16:9-CD-drive a week ago and then made some more COLOR CHANGE testing for rom_col to rom_col3. I found new info and will add this to the "Quick color change guide" I am still preparing. There will be a guide how to remove 4:3 and 16:9 displays from center console too as it took me about 2 very loooong hours to get the it out without damaging dashboard trim despite using guidance by BMW TIS (TIS hint to use special tool number 123456-789 is useless if You do not have it ).

Change colour depth and compression etc to achieve the desired file size.

Any crashing of the nav after the splash image has been changed is always due to the size of the spalsh image....

phu ... many many replys in this thread. Where I can find the instructions to change the boot screen? All what I know is, I have to replace the picture in the navboot file and then the navboot file in the firmware-CD. the second part is more easily. I use ultraiso and I hope it works. But how I change the picture and what properties must the picture have?

thanks in advance
