I didn't see anything in the story suggesting the Ford was a potential buyer. Doesn't make sense. Just the opposite in fact; the parallel in the story is that Ford sold off Jaguar to raise money, just as Chrysler will dump distractions and GM will try and dump Hummer.
I thought the GT40 was an interesting vehicle. The Corvette has engineering going for it. The Viper is just an oxcart with a shiny paint job by comparison.
