Been meaning to ask about thid for a while now, kept forgetting....
So you're cruising along in your X, all relaxed and care-free, and the driver in the Mustang in front of you decides he (or she) is going to throw a lit cigarette butt out of his/her window, and to hell with where it lands...someone else's windshield, the woods on the side of the road, burns a hole in someone's tire, who cares.... I'll do you one better.
Lets just say, you live near this: ![]() And every tourist who has ever visited Los Angeles wants to get close to it. (Not that it's mounted on the side of a hill or anything.. Do you see an access road? Unless you want to go play on the cell phone tower..) Well, guess where all those Jack (_!_) tourists flick their lit cigarette butts??? At least once or twice a week I get out of my car and scream at some moron who has just decided to toss their lit cigarette into the dry brush near my house. P.S. - I used to be a smoker, but at least I extinguished and disposed of my coals in a proper manner. Oh, and here's a view from my house, one night not too long ago...... ![]()

If the driver is at a traffic light, you are sometimes able to pick it up, and toss it back in his lap with a polite "Here you are, you dropped this"

you have hit on one of my pet peeves!!
It reminds me of when I was riding in the car on a family vacation back in the late 70's. A vette blew by us like we were standing still and I was totally awe struck. Fast forward about an hour and we come to a scene along the side of the highway with a firetruck applying water to all that was left of the vette - a metal frame and drivetrain. Apparently the driver had attempted to flick a cigarette out the window and it blew back into the vehicle and caught the interior on fire. Luckily the driver was able to get the vehicle over to the side of the road and get himself and his passenger out of the vehicle before it totally went up in flames, but the vette was a total loss.

When I worked Highway I used to write folks tickets for littering all the time for this. They could never figure out why it was a big deal but I equated the highway to my front yard and asked if it would bother them if I threw crap on their yard. Seemed to work. Of course there was the college girl who threw a full bag of McDonald's garbage right on the windshield of my cruiser at 7oMPH....but that's another story.

I HATE people who toss them on my lawn, too especially. I bust to keep my yard pristine and they just toss the fookin' things. It takes a lot not to slap the sh*t out of whoever is doing it. Funny. A pack of cigs in Maine is about $8. Down here, the advertising for your pack of Newports says $2.90. jesus. Last edited by Meiac09 : 08-26-2008 at 10:06 PM. |

At that cost nobody should be tossing cigarette butts out of any window. They should be eating those butts.
IMO, The unkindness described by the OP is the main reason people keep trying to pass laws against every kind of public smoking in California. Quote:

guys... I live here inna fairly nice, respected neighborhood, and I recently busted a lady, (just happened to catch her as I was drivin' up), who casually pulled to a stop in front of my house, put the Mercedes in Neutral, had the BALLS to just open her door and dump her full ashtray by my driveway entrance !! After I picked my jaw up, I jumped outa my car, stood in front of her car, and MADE her get something to pick th' mess up - (took a picture of her plate, started to call cops to report her-There IS a littering law here!)... Like Quick said, and you wonder WHY people want to ban public smoking.... What the $#%! happened to respectin' other people's property ? ![]()
