My soccer pre season starts tomorrow, just a question for those gym junkies.

was speaking to a player earlier and im a daily coffee drinker, our practices are at 7:30 AM and i was wondering besides my usual protein shake is it okay to drink a cup of coffee about an hour before practice?? I have Googled this and come to numerous results about caffeine.

I usually drink a coffee about a half hour to 45 before the gym, in the summer I hate coffee when its so warm out so I go with a apple. Apples are a good source of Niacin(Vitamin B3) and they give you an energy spike.

You should be fine... save the protein shake till after the practice as i've seen a few throw up during the early morning sessions... just take in some fluids before and during practice... eat well the night before and take a good dump in the morning........

Everyone reacts different to coffee , some can't go without it , some like myself hate the sight of it....it is a stimulant so don't quit it cold turkey just gradually decrease u're morning cup if u want to get of it

No gym junky here, but I need my morning coffee, so I have one double espresso, straight, at home before every morning ride. I usually do 50-120 km, so 2-4 hours later I would be suffering without having had a coffee. Protein is for recovery, right after getting back home. Just carbs and liquids before heading out. Works for me. YMMV.

I know that if I drank coffee before preseason, I'd be booting on the sidelines the whole time. Thats just me though. Don't forget about the crash. I'd personally try going to bed earlier for a week.

I second that. When I played football, the few times I did have coffee before practice nothing pretty happened. Plus the last thing you need is to be all jittery and then crash towards the end and have no energy left for those fun end of practice sprints.

My early morning workout starts out with a cup of coffee.
I try to finish most of it before I start lifting but sometimes drink it during my workout.

Now I am not a doctor or health expert, so please don't use me as an example.

On occasion when I forget and run out of coffee, I sometimes start my workout with a Redbull but I know that's really bad. But I do need something to get me started before I start boxing and lifting.
