Maybe they tried getting in based on meritocracy, although deservingly so, and it didn't work. Affirmative action is not just for racial minorities... that is a misnomer.

Sounds like I need to do some more research on affirmative action. I was under the impression it was put in place to legislate preferential treatment in the hiring and school admission of "minority" and previously discriminated groups which include race and gender.

I say dump that and create a TRUE level playing field. ANYONE caught discriminating based on gender and color should be fired, fined and if egregious jailed.

What part did I get wrong? BTW...Love these debates.

I have to say that my attitude on politics in general may not be the healthiest. I feel that extreme right and left wingers are only one small notch below religious fanatics on the crazy scale. I find myself to be somewhere in the middle, but slightly on the republican side. I can see good things across both lines, though. To tell you the truth I wish we could scrap both candidates and start over.

I actually try to limit how much I pay attention to the political world in general because it can be so frustrating. I think that all politicians are worms. After all the frustration all you really have is one vote, so do with it what makes you happy and get on with the rest of your life. You can sit here and argue until you are blue in the face and your fingers are bleeding, but what will that change?

You and me both...I'm socially liberal and fiscally conservative.

Basically I don't give a shit what you do in your life just don't touch my money.

Not wrong, only partly correct. Affirmitave action in education takes into account race, ethnicity, native language, social class, geographical origin, parental attendance of the university in question and gender.

Affirmative action programs should end when everyone, no matter their skin color, has an equal opportunity... Obama as President will do much to bring that day closer.

A vote for Obama is a vote to end affirmative action...

Well Hell...I only qualified under one criteria. Social Class (poor welfare family).

I guess that is why my first job was working in a concessions stand at 14 years old and a paper route. I had to bust my ass to get where I am today.

Obama supports affirmative action. Besides "Equal Opportunity" does not exist and never will. Those with money and influence will ALWAYS have an upper hand. Plenty of white poor people get thrown under the bus equally. Discrimination based on skin color is just plain stupid and you can't legislate stupidity.

Happily cast your one vote, and then go on pursuing happiness in your life - this is great advice.
