OK...So I'm going to be spending less time here
I'm starting a portrait oil painting of my son which will take a bit of my free time if I'm able to stay focused.
Here is the photo I'm working from...This will be a challenge. I'll share my progress but I expect it will take some time seeing it is my first portrait. Last edited by MrLabGuy : 08-19-2008 at 02:36 AM. |

Here are some of my other amateur paintings and drawings.
First painting ever. I was accidentally placed in an advanced art class in college when the admissions person reversed the last two numbers of the class and was stuck so I did my best. The assignment was to reproduce a Monet. This was my attempt having never attempted anything but a stick figure and scribble in years past. Heck...I got an A in the class so it was not all that bad I guess. Here is my second attempt at painting years later. Here is my third painting. Next I figured if I'm going to paint I might as well try to draw. Here are my first three drawings. Keep in mind I can't even write my name consistently or legibly. Close up of the ladys face. These I copied from some photos on Art .com for my son Sebastian to place in his room. Last edited by MrLabGuy : 08-19-2008 at 02:47 AM. |

Go for it and Good Luck!
When I first started reading the post I was wondering how you were going to get your son to sit still for that long... Working from a picture gives you some advantage I guess, and that's a great one to work from!

Based on your other paintings, I'm sure it'll be spectacular. GL!

Whoa
I'm actually impressed!Would've thought you were kidding if you hadn't shown us your previous works. I guess working in a lab gives you an artistic edge when it comes to drawing. From what I understand artists need a good feel of measurement and proportion. I lack in that area, so when I draw something (like stick figures) I start out fine but end up with something so bizzare even I hate my own work. Keep us posted! |

Wow, good work MLB..
Isn't there a site where you can submit a photo and they can send you a paint by numbers canvas? It might save you some time ![]() B

wow, that's great work MrLabGuy...i'm an artist and studied it in college and I don't even draw people close to as good as you do. I can pretty much draw other stuff except people. Somehow, I can't get the faces right...Good Luck and post some pics when you're done so everyone here can say AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! OOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHH! I know I will!
