I don't think you understand the military..or TREASON. He took an oath to serve, then bailed out to save his own hide while others were killed, nobody forced him to join. The PC mentality here makes me sick to my stomach. My 2 cents.

Yeah but um, I really didn't know what I was getting into, um, I could have done worse..um..please put me on CNN and protect my @ss.

As a service member, and a Veteran of 2 combat deployments, there is little to no excuse for going AWOL, if in fact, if one had a legitimate reason not to deploy,or separate from the military there are proper channels and ways that the soldier would be able to address his issues. Also, Giving him the death penalty for desertion is HIGHLY unlikely, recently a soldier was processed for killing his command with a grenade,(you probably heard about the incident awhile ago) he was only sentenced with confinement... So anyway, this so-called soldier should bring his weak ass self back to the states and pay the piper, get his chapter 10, take the dishonorable dishcharge and see all the great benifits that his oppertunity to serve would have given him, but instead he pissed them down the drain... On another note I often have a chance to meet alot of these soldiers once they have been picked up for desertion (all processing for Awol soldiers east of the missippi takes place at Fort Knox and has to be approved of by the commander here... sometimes they come to the office to present thier cases before going to court martial... so I see them before they see the man ) and they usually have a cloudy vision of what they have really sacrificed by leaving the service on those terms...

100%..This guy deserves the punishment..Even if its severe..
