Arrow "iPhone nano" set to hit shelves this Christmas

"iPhone nano" set to hit shelves this Christmas

Rumours are circulating that Apple is preparing to introduce the iPhone 'nano'. According to the Mail on Sunday, the follow-up to the iPhone will be hitting stores over the Christmas period.

The newspaper cited an unnamed industry source who claims the iPhone nano will have a "touch wheel on the back and display on the front so that numbers will be dialled from behind".

"The iPhone 3G has been the fastest-selling phone ever in the UK, but it is too expensive to be a realistic proposition in the pay-as-you-go market." said the source.

"However, a cut down version, with the candy bar shape of iPod nano music players, would be a huge hit as a Christmas gift," the source added.

The article suggests the product will be launched by O2 and will be priced at around £150 on pay-as-you-go.

A knock-off clone?

The problem is not the product, it's the service. Make it for Verizon......

How will the keypad work? The letters would have to be impossibly small, or you wouldn't be able to see anything but the keyboard.

Not if you rotate the phone lengthwise and the keyboard shifted 16:9 like with photos and Safari. I wish the current iPhone keyboard did that because I can't type worth a damn on that tiny POS. It is the one big flaw IMO.

When I was up in Seattle in the Spring, I met a couple of guys who had a "type-off" with a WM6 phone and an iPhone.

The iPhone user was given the phrase: "The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog," by the WM user. Other than a couple of typos he beat the WM user.

I was impressed. I rarely type on my WM phone (Q9m). But the Q9m works with my 4th gen BT module.

However, I agree with trueXer: without Verizon the iPhone is useless to me. I can't get good service from any other provider.
