16yo boy dies with his R1

Can parents really be this stupid?

cbs2.com - 16-Year-Old Dies From Motorcycle Stunts At School
Quote:
RIVERSIDE A 16-year-old Riverside boy doing stunts in a high school parking lot crashed his new 2008 Yamaha R1 motorcycle into a classroom building, and died a short time later, Riverside police said Sunday.

Coroner's officials identified the teen as Austin Lee Allen, 16, of Riverside.

Riverside police Sgt. Dan Reeves said the motorcycle rider was initially believed to be a student at Martin Luther King Jr. High School, where the crash was reported at 7:22 p.m. Saturday.

Witnesses said Allen was riding the Yamaha alone in a parking lot at the
school, in the 9300 block of Wood Road in the south Riverside area of Woodcrest, according to police and coroner's accounts of the crash.

Allen was doing a variety of high-speed stunts when he lost control of the Yamaha and crashed into the classroom, Reeves said. Allen was wearing a helmet, but he was pronounced dead at 8:18 p.m. at Riverside Community Hospital, Reeves said.

An accident investigation was expected to continue, and police asked anyone with any information to contact Riverside police Detective Rick Prince at (951) 353-7990.

Yep it's daily news around here. As much as I want a Ducati I just don't need the injuries. I saw a deal the other day on cars that were the most expensive to insure. Turns out they were cars like the Acura RSX and Neon SRT. Teen cars that they think are race cars. A LOT of them get wrecked, thus insurance on those cars go up for everyone. Oh the Evo and WRX were in the top 10 as well. They said 'cars that can zip in and out of traffic usually do.' So knowing that, why on Earth would you buy your kid an R1? Or any sport bike for that matter. RIP for the poor kid.

The age for driving a motorcycle should be higher than a car IMO.
I know how bad my friends are at driving with 4 wheels, it scares me what two and a nuclear reactor in the middle would cause.

This is really sad. I agree with Meiac09 the age to ride sport bikes should be higher than for car. I ride a lot but If I had had a sport bike when I was 16 or even 18 I would probably have killed myself. I have always been amazed that here in the USA you can ride any bike you want just with a permit and without having any ridding experience.

Well, since I didn't have one as a kid, so I'll let my kids have one

I hate to say it but, if you're going to buy your kid's affection, make sure you can afford the consequences.

and the age restriction. Are you kidding me? An R1 for a 16 yr kid? I test rode one of those, it's a beast. I'll stick with my lowly CBR600RR, thank you!

I've driven a R1 also, they are even too fast for an expierienced driver let alone a 16 year old kid.
