Someone please explain to me how this is not a flat out lie.
This email I just got from the Obama campaign is a FLAT OUT LIE. I'm on the mailing list because I asked his campaign a question on their website.
Everyone with a brain paying attention knows that Obama has far more cash in reserve and his fund raising dwarfs McCain's. Add to that McCain will be taking public financing and will be limited to what he can spend this election. I guess dishonesty is how they rake in the big bucks. "The McCain campaign is bragging that they are out-raising and out-spending us. They had their best month ever in June, and combined with the Republican National Committee, they now have more than $95 million in cash on hand. With this massive fundraising effort, they claim they've been out-spending us 3-to-1 on TV ads over the past couple months. Unfortunately, when it comes to collecting giant checks from Washington lobbyists and special interest PACs, McCain and the RNC do have a lot to brag about. They are raking in huge donations from those who want to keep Washington just the way it is. And they are pulling ahead in the money race. To compete against these big money interests in all 50 states, this campaign is relying on you. We need to respond to the McCain campaign and show them how presidential campaigns should be funded -- by ordinary people like you giving only what you can afford. I recorded a short video in my office about what we are up against and why now is the time to step up and make your first donation. Watch the video and make a donation of $25 now:" Any Obama supporters here care to deny this is misleading? |

I don't know if it is a lie. This video is not about Obama v. McCain in a fundraising contest. This is about Obama and the DNC v. McCain and the RNC. Everyone knows Obama has McCain beat in fundraising. The question is whether Obama can compete with the financial power of the RNC. First, the video says that the DNC has 4.4m in cash on hand compared to 53.6m cash on hand for the RNC. Together, the RNC and the McCain campaign has 96m cash on hand. Point is, the DNC is broke compared to the RNC. This is another reason why Obama opted out of public finance.

Good point thought you'll have to say the ad is a bit misleading. The DNC fund-raising thus far has been pitiful under Howard Dean but then what did you expect. Dean is a train wreck and the Democrats don't seem to hold him accountable. Overall Obama has personally out raised McCain in every month and has set personal records in doing so throughout his campaign. Also from all the reports I've seen Obama is the one outspending McCain in most the Country on advertising. Funny thing though...McCain needs the RNC as much as the DNC needs Obama. |
