BigR,
Thanks for the heads up...got it DVR'd on Hobo West at Midnight...

Curious to see it; the NCLB "program" is a sham here locally...
A can of worms, invented, enforced and judged by politicos
and admins; none of whom have been near a classroom since
they graduated nor could any of them teach the ABCs, imo.

I save my real rant for post show, lol!

I saw it twice, and it was even more depressing the second time around.

I haven't seen it so I can't comment on what is portrayed but I can tell you that the NCLB Act and everything the media puts out about education in America forget about it to put a large chunk of the blame on the real issue: LOUSY PARENTS!

Schools can only do so much and teach so much in 6 or 7 hours a day. It's up to parents to do their jobs. Somewhere along the way it has become okay for parents to blame teachers and schools for failing their precious children while all they do to "parent" is contribute one egg and a gaggle of sperm. These "parents" should not be allowed to blame everyone but themselves.

I think I said the same thing in anothe post earlier this week. My wife is a public school educator and she says that the NCLB is the WORST educational program ever created.

Check out season 4 of HBO's the Wire. That season focused on B-More public schools, police and politics.

Absolutely true. There is no funding for these public schools either, especially the ones in depressed tax areas. I know. I spend over $1,000 of my own money every year on my wife's classroom. There is a lack of certified educators as well.

Although my wife teaches in the public system, all of our kids go to private schools. It is an absolute necessity.

Here are quickies:

- 1,100 student, "Open House Night" 105 parents showed up and the principal was ecstatic.
- One student got above 1000 on the SAT, the lowest was 440
- Their basketball team is top tier
- Over 50% of the students are in 9th grade (some as old at 17)
- Majority of new 9th graders have a 4.5-5th grade reading level

Not surprising at all. I know of a school district in my area that is in a "challenged" area and from Kindergarten to 12 grade the enrollment was reduced in half! So somewhere along the way, half of the school aged minors simply stop going. Oh, and they have one of the highest teen pregnancy rate in the state.
