segways are pretty quick (15 mph) and completly amazing. if you are not used to hitting bumps and dips with it, you will bite it pretty hard. i've see it all too many times, i my self almost bit it on a side walk that was crooked and had a hole.

friend of mine bought one, used it for two weeks, then sold it on ebay. he said it was cool at first but the novelty wore off and he couldnt justify the price as he said there are gopeds and things like that that go faster for less money..

personally I wouldn't get caught dead riding around on a segway just for fun, if it had a function it would be cool (like polo, or for PD use), but otherwise i'd much rather be in my X
