Dog pics

Our pup was in some more dog shows a couple of weekends ago. He did so well in his first one that we thought we'd try some more. We are not really dog show people but we do enjoy being around so many dogs and we have a small group of us from our breeder who get together for training and shows so it's kind of a social thing for us and our dog. It's been great exposure and socialization for him. He seems to enjoy being out there and around all the action. The training and obedience helps in every life too. Rottweilers are working dogs so they always need something to do and the shows and training are all part of that. We have no particular plans for showing him and he was not acquired to be a show dog. He's just our silly pet, first and foremost. There are some other things we'd like to do with him such as agility, rally, and pet therapy.

Here he is 6 months of age. It was at the International All Breed Canine Association European style show held at Lake Irvine in Orange County, CA. It's a mix of German/European style judging and AKC. The German style means that every dog gets a written critique from the judge and is given a rating. It's great that way because you learn more about your dog and the standards of the dogs. This show had all kinds of dogs, from Pomeranians to English Mastiffs. It was cool to see all the different breeds.

How did he do? We're very proud to say that in the four shows they had over two days, he earned the highest ratings a dog under 2 years of age can get. He entered 4 shows and got 4 "SG1" ratings. ("SG1" means "sur gut 1", or "very good 1".) He also won two Best of Breeds against older dogs. With all that, he qualified for his National and International titles. It's only a puppy class title but we're still proud of him.

Here is Heiko

Too cute! "Junior" handler with a English Bulldog puppy in the kids competition

Sorry to hear about your Akita. We had a female that died too young. They are great dogs.

Here's a full shot of that Akita. He thinks he's a lap dog.
