Oh great... another cheap BMW (by BMW standards) coming our way, just what we need. What next? a zero series!

Lowers the entry point. Good for younger, upwardly mobile folks who you want to attract to the brand so they will buy progressively more expensive cars. The X1 driver may be the future buyer of your E70 when you transition into the next model.

That future buyer (younger) of the E70 or any other BMW should buy a another brand until they are ready to buy a real BMW, I'm sure they will still be interested when they can afford one. The entry point should be high for a BMW. These new models (x1/1 series) do nothing but reduce the brand and exclusivity of a BMW... or what's left of it!
A BMW at every street corner with a teenager behind the wheel is not something I'm looking forward too. IMO the 3 is a perfect entry BMW, anything less is just a plain cheap BMW. Just my opinion... I could be wrong.

Most probably X1 will not be coming to US. Its targeted for European market. Enough demand there from 1-series hatchback owners.
