Not to my recollection, but that assumes you are using OEM (BMW) filters, and not an aftermarket filter. In general, aftermarket filters can have problems with the pressure relief valve, drain-back valve, disintegration, etc. This is not particular to filters that fit BMWs (which are usually cartridge filters and not spin-on filters), it applies to a wide range of aftermarket filters. The problem is that people think filters are all the same (and they can be, dimensionally) when in fact the filter medium, pressure limits, etc, can vary widely. Be careful of companies that are reported to 'build the filters for BMW' such as Mann and Mahle as these are often a lower quality standard that the actual OEM filter. Not picking on those two any more than the others, but in my business we regularly see oil filter companies producing multiple product lines with different internal specifications.

I don't buy them online, I buy them at my local BMW dealer. They aren't expensive, and I get the added bonus of walking past the new models on my way to the parts counter. If you want to buy online, I suppose you could use one of the site sponsors on the X5World homepage, such as Morristown. |
