Trading In your car...

Well I think the time has come to trade in my 01 4.4 . The car has 79k-80k on it...no

warranty...and little things that have stopped working (seatbelt, driver's door) i fixed myself

along with oil changes...

I am just wondering on how to go about trading this car in...I am wondering what should I

expect from the dealer in terms of checking the car from problems/ history (which is

accident free)...what adds to the plusses or minuses of the car. To replace I am looking at

05/06 3 serie or maybe the 128/135.

Any feedback from BMW owners or anyone that have traded their cars in would be

greatly appreciate it.

Dealer isn't going to do a real thorough check of a trade in because they will most likely auction something that old off. Trade value wise, probably in the low teens tops ($11-12,000).

If you could afford the $40,000+ of the 135, why bother with a 2005 3er??

Well i can afford the 135 but at what price on my other things...I have 2 jobs

which both pay really well given that I am 21 not that I want to brag....

however i still have to be realistic...depending on what i get for my car...lets

say 10k then my options will pretty much be cut...i don't want to exceed 30k.

my X is pay off so whatever im left with it will make for a nice down payment..

Then you should be looking at the 128 or the older 3ers, not the 135.

A 7 yr old X will be going straight to auction so they are not going to check much other than run a carfax or equivalent and also check that you have a clean title.

I got $17k on trade for my 2002 X5 5-speed manual black / black with premium / sport / xenon / self levelling. It had 72k miles at the time.. I traded it in around end of October 07
