Special BMW iPod cable needed?

Hi,

I just got my new 2008 X5 and I choose to get the USB interface with it. Now, I just connected the iPod with the Apple USB cable it comes with, and I have some issues like:
- It does not find or recognise any Playlists (I've tried several iPods)
- The song titles are often distorted, sometimes only random letters comes up on the screen.

I understand there is a BMW iPod cable that plugs into both the USB and the AUX connector, and my question is if I need that to get the full benefit of the ipod in the car?

You need the kit

Funny thing is that I just bought a new 2008 X5 in August and mine came with the kit. It was in a bag with a BMW label and was in the center console area when we picked up the car.

If I were you I would ask my dealer to throw one in for free.

Google is your friend.
Search on "BMW Y cable part number" returns "61 12 0 440 796" on one of the links on the first page.
