I would like to purchase a Sirius receiver for my 2005 X3 with Satellite Prep. I have a friend who has the same truck and we checked his part# which is 65-12-0-398-140. After calling some dealerships they tell me i need part# 65-12-0-416-377 which is about $300 more expensive. So my question to all of you is, will the 398-140 work with my X3? Any help will be appreciated.

Yes, the newer module will work perfectly. The difference is that the newer module comes with a 1 year Sirius subscription. It should only be about $200 more than the old part was. Part number 65.12-0 416 377 should be about $415 from a good BMW dealer with discounted parts. To be 100% perfect, you will also need one of the installation kits, depending on whether or not you have navigation. The install kits should be under $50.
84.11-0 390 240 Install kit for cars without navigation 84.11-0 390 943 Install kit for cars with navigation

I did it myself and thought it was very easy. On the front page of x5world.com there are really good instructions on how to do this.

+1 - Self-installation is very easy. Go for it.

+1 myself as well. (i'm a real novice too) It is a pretty basic install just takes time & patience. At the end of the day you save yourself a few hundred $$ for doing it yourself. |

Excellent. Take pictures and write-up your experience. It will help others who follow in your footsteps.

I did not disconnect the battery when I did my Sirius install. This one is pretty easy.
