X5 parcel shelf as speaker mount

I am trying to figure the best way to mount speakers and amps in my E53. In the past (different cars) I have used a replacement rear parcel shelf with the speakers mounted there. I was wondering if anyone has done such a conversion on their X5? It wouldn't be straightforward as the shape wouldn't lend itself to being freely lifted up when the rear hatch is opened. But with some care I think it could be done.

Has anyone done this? Any suggestions?

Did you get an answer for this?.

I am in the same boat wanting to add a parcel shelf as well rather than upgrading the stock speakers. I always find passing 6X9 's via amp does the trick in most cars.

Input from anyone with similar setup would be appreciated

I had a proper look in the boot and it seems possible to use a parcel shelf. It would have to sit Over the existing Top Hard Plastic trim and then be held in place osing the 2 holes on the side of the plastic trim.

This would mean that only way to get stuff into the boot will be by opening the lower part of the bootlid.

The major problem is implications in a high impact rear end collision. The MDF parcel shelf could cause some major disaster if it flies through the car hitting rear occupants it the head.
