X3 Running Board Install Part 1 X3 Running Board Install Part 1

Installing the X3 running boards is not a difficult DIY and does not require a lift. The part number is 51 71 0 305 705.

1. Remove rocker trim: start by removing the (7) plastic rivets and (1)8mm fastener bolt from the underside of the rocker moulding. Remove (2) plastic rivets from the rear section of the rocker moulding (in rear wheel well).

Now you are able to remove the rocker moulding by pulling outward at the rear and work your way forward.

2. Remove the rocker moulding frame/bracket: Remove (1) plastic push pin rivet from the front of the frame and (10) 12mm bolts on the top and bottom.

3. Install new rocker moulding frame/bracket in reverse order of step 2. Torque the 12mm bolts to 22Nm (new hardware supplied with kit) and reuse the same push pin rivet.

4. Install new rocker trim: Start at the front by tucking it under the fender moulding and stapping it into place. Tuck the rear under the fender moulding and snap into place. Install new push pin rivets on the underside along with the 8mm fastener bolt. Install a push pin rivet and a plastic rivet in the rear section of the rocker trim. If you do not have a rivet gun, you can purchase (2) additional push pin rivets that will work just as well.
