What is a Mechatronics?

I recently had some trouble with my X5, idles rough, engine dies...been in the shop for over 30 days now, on its 3rd visit.

I just picked it up and the RO says FOUND EGS FAULTS- REPLACED MECHATRONICS

The previous RO said FOUND FAULTS FOR JAMMED OR STICKING VANOS SOLENOID VALVES, REMOVED AND CLEANED VALVES

First visit- REPLACED LAMBDA OXYGEN CONTROL SENSOR
