Hillary desperately wants to hold on to power which is obvious by her actions of late. She really feels she was not given a fair shake in the primary and truly believes she is the best candidate.

She has come out and said she would accept a VP slot and she and her campaign believe that she is necessary on the ticket to win in November. So she feels justified in her pressure on Obama. If she indeed hints that she will run on an independent ticket Obama will have no choice but to choose her as his VP because everyone knows Obama can't win with Hillary on the ballot in November.

Hillary is looking out for Hillary but I don't think she will actually move ahead as an independent because it hurts her in the long run if Obama passes on her for the VP nomination.
