I'm sure this was an attempt at humor. Unfortunately it failed. While I agree there is a portion of those societies, especially African-American, that does not take responsibility for their own problems, that have both had a great number of issues thrust upon them by others.

Everything on this earth take time to recover from damage. From organic matter (bodily injury), economic fluctuations (recessions, depression, etc) to emotion injury. To say that African-American or Gays should just "get over" is silly. Just 40 years ago Martin Luther King was asasinated. Just 40. Has the climate changed? Of course! Are things better, of course! But there are still things wrong and injustices happening everyday. And sometimes problems caused by someone else, are harder to correct then problems you caused solely.

This statement is simple silly and a bit insultive, in my opinion. Although I'm sure it would get big laughs at the comedy store.
